Joy, unexpected

The trail beckoned us
To revel in the crimson and gold
And to bid the geese good luck as they prepare for their journey
Little did we know that there would still be monarchs
And painted ladies
Sharing their beauty as well.

Wild geese that fly ...

With a rainbow on their wings ... These are a few of my favourite things!

Have I mentioned that I love butterflies?

Neither words nor photos can do justice to the amazing air show that takes place out on our back forty these days.

My favorite weeds

The weeds and wildflowers are thriving at Casa di Rosa this summer. Anything I've planted .. meh, not so much!

The persistence of patience

Many years ago, I put up some bluebird houses on our fenceline. And for many years, the tree swallows happily took up residence therein. That's cool. Tree swallows are beautiful and feisty, and are most welcome to act as pest control in our air space. But this year .. at long last .. a pair of Eastern Bluebirds are making their home here!
Happy spring, my friends!

Yearly visitors

The sky was full of these fine feathered friends.
Brought north a little early, perhaps because of that wicked southerly wind.
The blue morph was an added bonus.
Safe travels, dear friends!

I nearly didn't find what I was looking for

There is a large herd of deer who roam freely in my neck of the woods. They can usually be seen grazing in the fields at sunrise and sunset. I have been trying to capture that elusive, bucolic image of the graceful animals for a long, long time.
This evening, as I set out to prepare my beloved Wundermutt's dinner, the setting sun filled my kitchen with a beautiful warm glow. I quickly grabbed my camera and stepped outside to snap a picture or two:

It was only when I drew my focus out, that I spotted these beauties:

Maybe we need to stop looking for that perfect ~~ whatever ~~ and simply let it come to us.
